The Fondation d’entreprise Martell displays Par nature (By nature) by the French artist Vincent Lamouroux on the ground floor of the building until January 31, 2017. This immersive artwork, which occupies more than 600 square-meters, is curated by Nathalie Viot, the foundation's director and produced by Less Is More Factory, offering an enticing glimpse of the future cultural schedule of the Fondation.

Vincent Lamouroux’s installation is an artificial terra incognita, a mineral and botanical landscape that is—by nature—white. This work, as a form and as a field of experience, offers the possibility of an infinity of viewpoints. It invites visitors to wander along the extraordinary undulating walkways whose elevation speaks to and stimulates the adventurous of spirit.

The white halo fades out around the edges of the work as the sand is spread by visitors’ footsteps. Thus, the imprecise contours offer a choice of entering the landscape or observing from a distance, allowing all to embark on a journey in space and time. The artist has cultivated, down to the finest detail, the appearance of a wild landscape, fixing the dunes and considering the unstable properties of matter. The white veil he has cast over the work is as much the sign of an effacement as the evocation of a beginning. Par nature suggests the power of patient forms whose movement is beyond time.

“The Fondation d’entreprise Martell will be curious, open and transversal. Its mission is to become an original space in Cognac which stimulates pleasure and curiosity, and nurtures creation and innovation. It will bring together, around projects of variable dimension, artists and artisans, new technologies and traditional savoir-faire. The Fondation d’entreprise Martell will be fluid, adaptable, visible and accessible. Visitors will experience diverse environments, materials, skills and artistic approaches. They will come to hear, to see, to feel, to make, to invent, to read, to dream," explains Nathalie Viot, Director of the Fondation d’entreprise Martell and Curator of Par nature.
On October 13, 2016, the House of Martell launched a new corporate foundation in Cognac with a cultural and multidisciplinary vocation. Envisioned as a creative ecosystem, the Fondation d’entreprise Martell will offer a rich and varied schedule of events promoting the discovery and experimentation of culture and savoir-faire, as well as nurturing exchanges and collaborations on a local, national and international scale.
Located in the historic Gâtebourse building, whose modernist architecture makes it a landmark in Cognac, the Fondation d’entreprise Martell just openned with its first exhibition as a preview of the future schedule of events. An ambitious program of improvements will then begin on the interior of the building, with the ground floor and roof top terrace reopening to the public in spring 2018, followed by a gradual opening of the other floors as the work is completed. The entire 6,000 square-meters of the Fondation d’entreprise Martell will be accessible in 2020/2021.

Silverlake’s Sunset Pacific Motel, more colloquially known as the “Bates Motel” made headlines when French artist, Vincent Lamouroux, covered the entire building in lime wash, including the palm trees, calling the installation, “Projection.” AIA|LA has gained exclusive access inside this public art project for a lively discussion about the future of hotel design.

We’ve invited L.A.’s leading designer's from the LINE Hotel, The Standard, and the under-construction Wilshire Grand to discuss the trends in the industry. The panel discussion will be followed by a wine and cheese networking reception.

The Silverlake Independent Jewish Community Center will host free, art workshops, open to the public on May 3, 2015, in conjunction with French artist Vincent Lamouroux’s site-specific art installation, Projection. This temporal art project, produced by Please Do Not Enter, has temporarily transformed Silver Lake’s Sunset Pacific Motel, well known by its infamous moniker as the “Bates Motel.” Lamouroux has covered the entire building and its surrounding environment in white opaque lime wash, inviting viewers to speculate, infer and project their own imaginings onto the stark white structure.

This related arts education programming will take place concurrently throughout Projection’s life-span, curated by Creative Migration, an arts nonprofit organization based in Silver Lake that is also managing the installation of the artwork itself.

These collaborative educational workshops are intended to encourage critical engagement with the installation, and are designed to raise questions about our living environment and the mutability of our perceptions. Lamouroux’s interest in the creation of experiential encounters, and in the indeterminate potential of transitional spaces, will inform the larger conceptual framework of these dedicated art workshops. In keeping with the spirit of the project, the programming is an invitation to speculate, experience and question.

These workshops are made possible with support from the Silver Lake Neighborhood Council, and are held on a first-come first-serve basis - subject to advance sign-up.

An architectural intervention into Silver Lake’s notorious Sunset Pacific Motel, commonly known by its infamous moniker as the “Bates Motel”, Projection by Vincent Lamouroux will impermanently transform the derelict structure, altering the public’s perception and temporal experience of the site. The artist will cover the entire building in white opaque lime wash, inviting viewers to speculate, infer and project their own imaginings onto the stark white structure. By dramatically punctuating Los Angeles’ urban landscape, Projection becomes an open- ended invitation to experience an indeterminate space.

Everyone is invited to enjoy Projection hosted at the Silver Lake Independent Jewish Community Center (SIJCC) and on Bates Avenue at Sunset Blvd. from 3-6pm on Sunday, April 26. Complimentary refreshments will be available at the SIJCC. Meals will be available for purchase on Bates Avenue with partial proceeds going towards Creative Migration, the arts nonprofit organizing Projection. Sustain LA is an event partner to help us reduce our environmental impact. Guests are encouraged to bring reusable water bottles and travel to the event by foot, bike, public transit or carpool (street parking available).

VINCENT LAMOUROUX ARTIST STATEMENT

"Projection is a site-specific intervention on the Sunset Pacific Motel property in Silver Lake, Los Angeles. It consists of covering the entire building – as well as the billboard and palm trees that surround it – with an ecologically safe white limewash.

On Sunset Boulevard and Bates Avenue, a transitioning facade, an abandoned motel as a commonplace, archetype of the constant mobility of contemporary society. A white coat now adorns the architecture. The limewash thoroughly covers the building and the adjacent billboard, as well as the palm trees that surround it. The urban space is disrupted. An abandoned space is transfigured and enhanced, perhaps eluding its last glory. The motel's intriguing aspect is accommodating an imaginary drive away from our habitual quest for sameness.

Projection induces both an appearance and a disappearance; it revisits our existing landscape with new eyes and envisions the building’s surfaces as screens for the projection of our desires.

Essentially the motel – an incarnation of impermanence and passage – remains closed. The lime wash adornment thus re-imagines the building as an architectural model transposed in an urban environment. Impenetrable, it preserves the indetermination that nourishes our curiosity and imagination.

Projection calls for an economy of means, brings revelation to a site suddenly fixed in time, informing a spatial- temporal transformation."
