Our founder, Susannah Tantemsapya, made a radio piece about the land in Northern Thailand - broadcasting this month as part of KCHUNG’s residency for #BreakingNews: Turning the Lens on Mass Media at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles.
Through the process of meditation and awareness, The First Human Born In Space would like to offer his extra planetary perspective to help foster the development of new forms of empathy.
The First Human Born In Space is a transmedia project primarily composed of short films written and directed by Jasmin Blasco, produced by Pico Studio in partnership with Creative Migration.
In a series of transmissions, The First Human Born in Space examines the long term effects of the condition of outer space on the human subject, mind and body. The orbital perspective of the native astronaut provides an alien vantage point on Earth from an environment of pure technological mediation.
Vote Our Planet Youth Poster Workshop - all ages, led by artist and teacher Kristi Holohan.
Organized by Creative Action Network and Patagonia, in conjuction with the Brower Center's 2016 Art/Act exhibition honoring The Canary Project.
From degraded soils and fracked farmlands to dammed rivers, poisoned water and a rapidly changing climate, our planet is under immediate and increasing threat. The choices we make this November will have a direct effect on countless environmental issues at the national, state and local levels. A vote for the planet is a vote for the future—and the time to act is now.
All workshop participants will design posters with the potential for display in The Canary Project exhibition, up through February 9, 2017.
Please join in for an inspiring, creative afternoon!
The David Brower Center is pleased to present its eighth annual Art/Act Award and Exhibition, Art/Act: The Canary Projecthonoring the prolific arts initiative The Canary Project.
The exhibition provides a multimedia overview that shows the kaleidoscopic nature of its work over time. Supporting didactics, archived images and graphics trace how the work connects to the environmental movement and is informed by a theory of change. The exhibition includes selected works from the past ten years, including A History of the Future—a series of landscape photographs taken in places around the world affected by climate change; Eclipse—a video piece about the extinction of the passenger pigeon made in conversation with New Yorker writer, Elizabeth Kolbert; and Green Patriot Posters—a design campaign centered on posters that encourage all U.S. citizens to build a sustainable economy. Also included are photographs and video from Water Gold Soil: American River, a project that examines the water issues of California through the lens of a single flow of water, and also raises deeper political and philosophical questions underlying California’s present ecological crisis.
